I want my money for nothing and my chicks for free.

mood: chipper chipper

Wow. I just realized that I haven't updated in almost four months. Where has the time gone? Well a lot of things have been happening: some good, some bad, some which I don't yet know if they or good or bad; most of which I don't feel like sharing right now.

But alas, the semester is almost up- another one has passed and they still allow me to teach the young. I keep waiting for the day when the ole department heads come to their senses and get rid of me. Ha Ha. Oh how I joke at my own expense. I really do think that teaching is my true calling, and as much as I whine and complain about my students I can't really see myself doing anything else. I'm still not sure I want to make the step into high school though. I'm still working on my certification, but I'm not sure if I'm going to finish it up next year. I think I need a little break. I mean, teaching high school would be the smart choice- it would give me a much bigger income, benefits, and job security; none of which I have at the moment. But, at the same time I really like where I'm at now, so I don't know.

In other news, I have lost 25 pounds since January. I was kind of surprised by this. But, I went to the gyno to get some BC pills (too much info, I know) and apparently I have lost 25 pounds since I last weighed in Jan. I have been cutting back a little, but not a whole lot, so the weight loss is kind of a mystery to me.
But, hey I'm not going to knock it- any weight loss is good for me.

I have been hanging out and doing lots of fun things with friends latley. This makes me happy because for a while it seemed like I spent every night eating oreos, watching tv, and grading sub-par essays.

I leave for England in 45 days. Woot! I'm so excited.

What Your Cute Monster Says About You

You are both a realist and an idealist. You're able to see the world as it is - and how it could be.

You dream big, and you never give up on your beliefs. You have big plans.

Your inner demon is depression. Sometimes you build things up in your head.

People think you're cute because you're determined. You're a fighter, and that's charming.

Well... As Usual, I have nothing to say. Life is pretty boring at the moment. It seems to pretty much revolve around teaching and grading and then teaching some more, and then grading. Well you get the picture. It is a vicious circle. The semester is actually going by pretty quickly, and I'm really looking foward to christmas break.

So it seems as if I will be moving again. I can't remember if I updated about this last time, but I'm going to do it again. Katie and I will be parting ways in December. Right now, I sm on the waiting list for "the corners" which are really nice apartments and fairly affordable. But, the whole waiting list thing is fairly sketchy.

But, on a totally unrelated note. Did anyone see Supernatural last night where Dean was singing "Eye of the Tiger" There was something strangley erotic about that

Speaking of old 80's hits...... Piggy posted a Tears For Fears video the other day and it brought me back to my childhood and stuff. But then hearing the song reminded me of another song I loved as a ssmall child that I hadn't heard in a long time. But anyway, there is a funny story to go along with it. I remember in the second grade we had this day where we could bring in our favorite cassette tape (that's right, cassette tape) and I brought in the song "Beds are Burning" by Midnight Oil. I was obsessed with that song. I loved it so much. I had no idea whose beds were burning, why they were burning, etc. I didn't find out it was about the plight of the Aborigini in Austraila for many years later. But anyway, see I was a dirty liberal hippy even as a second grader.

Sep. 24th, 2008 | 03:28 pm

So I just had a student come in my office who I had last year to say hello. He was a nice kid...And I do mean kid- he is probabaly 18, 19- at the most. But anyway so here is how the conversation went;
Kid: Hi Ms. Mullinax I just wanted to see how you were doing
Me: Hi Kid, I'm just fine. How are You? Are you graduating this year?
Kid: No I still have another year to go, I guess you will have to look at my face for another year.
Me: Oh well that would be a pleasure, it is a cute face.

Gah! It just kind of slipped out! I'm so embarrased! When did I turn into Anne Bancrof?. Pretty soon I'm going to be wearing furs, smoking long cigarettes and mixing martini's in my office. Can anyone say coo-coo-ca- choo?

Oh well I better go to class. I'm sure there is another adolescent boy I can scare right around the corner.

Update

mood: peaceful peaceful
music: "Missing You" P Diddy

So things are going pretty well. I'm teaching six classes this semester over three campuses. So I spend most of my week just driving around, which is exhausting. I have never understood why driving makes you so tired. But I am really lucky this semester because I only have one big class out of the six; the rest of them have fewer than 15 people. Last Spring, I had six classes and all of them had at least 25 people in them. So this semester is better, even with all the driving.

I am also taking two classes at Converse to work on my English graduate hours so I can teach the higher level English. The English class is Lit. Criticism. I like the professor but it requires a lot of work which I'm not sure I'm going to have time for. But, we will see how it goes. The other class I'm taking is an education class. It is pretty pointless and useless as many education classes have been to me. But, I had to take another class to get financial aid, and that was the only other class that fit my schedule. but, the professor seems pretty laid back and I have bonded with an art teacher who hates the class as much as I do so I least I have someone to share my grief with. The class is full of people who are already teaching (early childhood mostly) and all they do is complain about how stupid their students are and how uninvolved the parents are, and how much they parents hate them. Hmmmm here is an idea. They might not hate you if you don't call their kids stupid. I don't know. I just don't understand it. They are enrolled in the class to get their Masters in Education and all they talk about is how much they hate teaching. If you hate teaching, then why don't you get a Masters in something else? Anyway, I could rant about that all day so I will stop.

I went to see the Indigo Girls a few weeks ago. They were awesome! I had wanted to see them for years. But. yeah it was a good time.

I finnally applied for my passport! Yay! The lady at the post office told me that it would be about a month for it to come back. I was really shocked because everyone had told me that it would take 9 months to a year to come back. So that is why I was freaking out so much. We areen't even going until the end of June. But, at least it is out of the way now....

Sadness

Aug. 21st, 2008 | 07:51 pm

this made me sad. I have always loved the DMB. Their music played such a huge part in my teenage years/young adulthood. Sadness

Dave Matthews Band Sax Player LeRoi Moore Dies
Dave Matthews Band sax player LeRoi Moore dies at 46 from injuries sustained in ATV accident
By RAQUEL MARIA DILLON Associated Press Writer
LOS ANGELES August 20, 2008 (AP) The Associated Pres

LeRoi Moore, the versatile saxophonist whose signature staccato fused jazz and funk overtones onto the eclectic sound of the Dave Matthews Band, died Tuesday of complications from injuries he suffered in an all-terrain vehicle accident, the band said. He was 46.

Moore died at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was admitted with complications that arose weeks after the June 30 wreck, according to a statement on the band's Web site. It did not specify what led to his death, and nursing supervisor Galina Shinder said the hospital could not release details.

On June 30, Moore crashed his ATV on his farm outside Charlottesville, Va., but was discharged and returned to his Los Angeles home to begin physical therapy. Complications forced him back to the hospital on July 17, the band said.

The band went on with its show Tuesday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, where lead singer Dave Matthews dedicated the entire show to Moore.

work, blah, blah, blah

Aug. 15th, 2008 | 06:37 pm

So I have my Fall schedule straight! The last week has been crazy with them pulling me out of classes and putting me in others, etc. I mean I know that they need other adjuncts for English, but people I am only ONE person. But, it is my fault also because I refuse to say "no I can't teach that class" because I'm a pleaser, I really need a good recomendation from them if I go to another school, and I need the money. But anyway, despite the fact that I am teaching at all three branches of the school and gas will take every penny I make, my schedule actually turned out pretty ok.

M/W Reading 100 8-9:20
African-American History 4-5:20
Developmental English I 6-7:15
Developmental English II 7:15-8:30

T/TH 8-9:20 Intro to Composition
9:30- 11 Intro to Composition (2)
2-3:20 Western Civ.

Classes start Monday and I'm excited, but also a little nervous. I always get really ancy the first day of class, but I guess that's normal. A few of my history students who were in my American history survey class last semester signed up for my other history classes, so I guess I must have not been horrible.

In other news, we signed the lease for another year for our apartment. I didn't really realize how much I missed living by myself until the last few weeks. I don't know if it was just because it was time to sign the lease and I'm a commitment-phobe or what. But oh well it's done now.

I start back working at the ole Mickel Library in January, which I'm excited about. So hopefully with that money I can take the rest of the classes I need in English to be able to teach the higher level ones, and take a step back from the Developmental ones, at least for a semester or two.

So life is going pretty well. The semester is over. I have about two weeks before Fall starts. I really liked my students this time. It was a really, laidback cool summer.

I'm taking two summer classes at Converse this summer. They are pretty ok so far.

We went to see The Dark Knight and the X-files this week. The Dark Knight was good, and of course, Christian Bale was hot, but Heath Ledger as the joker did freak me out. I kind of feel as if my adolescence/ young adulthood was raped by the X-files. It was ok, it just wasn't the X-files I loved.

I'm trying to read Twilight, it is quite full of angst; not sure how I feel about it yer.

My little brother moved out on his own this week. I'm happy for him. But it also makes me a little sad.

Update

So things are going about like usual here, which is good. No drama is always good for me. I am only teaching two classes this summer, so I have been a bit of a lazy whore the rest of the time. But, hey I taught 6 classes last semester and will teach 6 in the Fall, so I think I deserve a little laziness.

The crap about my wreck is still up in the air. We hired a lawyer, and should go to court pretty soon. I don't know why insurance companies have to be such bastards......

I am planning to go ahead and take two classes in the Fall (thanks for the input by the way, you guys rock!)so I can get financial aid. I am taking Lit Crit (the English class I need) and an Education class called "The Underachiever" I'm not really sure what this class is, but it is only one night a week and it fit my crazy teaching schedule, so there you go.

I am so excited about my trip to England, granted it is still a year away, but I'm pumped already. The plane ticket is going to be like 900.00 and then the food and whatever we do is the only other thing I will have to pay for. My friend is paying for all the places we stay, which saved me a ton of money!

I went to see the Sex and the City movie last night. It was actually pretty good, better than I expected. I won't give out any details, but if you guys are fans of the show you should go see the movie.

I need advice.....

May. 10th, 2008 | 03:56 pm

ok so for the past year I have been considering taking a few Graduate English classes at Converse so that (1) I will get paid more and (2) I will be able to teach the higher level English classes that my brain really really needs.I need 18 hours in English to do this, and I only have 9 at the moment. But, the problem is that they NEVER seem to offer anything that works with my work schedule. This whole year plus the summer they didn't offer anything that I could take. But, in the Fall they are offering one English class that will fit my schedule, but as all you fine former Connies know.... I can't get financial aid unless I am taking at least two classes. So here is my problem. I can either take the one English class and pull 1,000 bucks out of my arse somehow, or take the one English class, and another useless class I don't want or need, and get financial aid- with an added bonus of defering my student loans a little longer. But, I just hate paying(well having the governement, and eventuaslly me) 1,000 bucks for a class I don't need just to get money for one that I do. So what do you guys think?

Yes. I Know. I have been MIA as of late. But now, I am free! Free as a bird until next week when it starts up again. So yeah, the semester concluded swimingly. Most of my students passed, I had a couple in each class to fail, but mostly because they refused to turn in their work, so I feel no guilt on that one. Graduation was interesting. We had almost 600 graduates, which seemed to take forever! But, all in all it was good.

We are still currently trying to get the insurance company to stop being bastards. I had the wreck almost three months ago and they are still refusing to pay for anything......

So basically that is what is happening in my life at the moment....

I feel so old.......

Mar. 10th, 2008 | 06:29 pm

So I got a new car on Saturday. It made me happy. I still haven't gotten my money from the Bastard insurance company, but it was cheaper for me to take my all my savings (tear) and put a down payment on another car than to continue paying for a rental car. It is a 2008 Chevy Aveo. I had not planned to get a 2008, but it was only slightly more pricey than a used one, and they said my credit was good and that I didn't need a co-signer which shocked me. But anyway, today I went and had my insurance switched over and stuff and I just feel really old now. Anyhoo, here is the link for the car if you want to take a look at it.
